SENAPATI, June 4: The Konsakhul (Konsaram) Village Authority, has issued a clarification expressing deep concern over a reported agreement signed between the Working Committee of the United Naga Council (UNC) and the Sadar Hills Chief Association (SAHILCA) on June 2, 2025. The agreement, which allegedly addresses the April 5, 2025 assault on Konsakhul villagers, was reportedly signed at the UNC Office in Tahamzam without any consultation with the affected village leadership.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Konsakhul Village Authority stated that it had no prior knowledge of the so-called agreement. “With a heavy heart and a profound sense of responsibility, the Konsakhul Village Authority wishes to categorically clarify that we had no prior knowledge of the so-called ‘Agreement’ reportedly signed between the Working Committee of the United Naga Council (UNC) and SAHILCA on June 2, 2025, at the UNC Office, Tahamzam,” the statement read.
The authority emphasized its longstanding trust in the UNC, founded on shared values of justice, truth, and the protection of Naga land and dignity. “Our trust stems from lived experiences shaped by pain and struggle. We are still reeling from the brutal and inhumane assault on our women at K. Lungwiram on January 7, 2025, an incident that shook the conscience of every right-thinking individual. That trauma was further deepened by the unprovoked and coordinated attack by Kuki militants and their armed volunteers on Konsaram Village on April 5, 2025,” the statement further read.
Reaffirming its position, the Konsakhul Village Authority stated unequivocally that the core issue remains land ownership and declared that Konsaram will not yield on this matter under any circumstances. The statement invoked a declaration by Naga leader Ato Kilonser Th. Muivah, quoting : “Not an inch of Naga land will be compromised.”
The Authority called upon the UNC’s Working Committee to take serious note of Konsakhul’s position and urged Naga leadership to uphold truth and justice.
“We humbly and prayerfully appeal to our collective leadership to allow God’s wisdom to guide every decision so that truth is not compromised, and peace is not built upon silence or exclusion,” it stated.
Earlier, in a joint statement from UNC and SAHILCA, a joint meeting of the Working Committee, UNC and SAHILCA—along with the UNC President—met on June 2 to address the April 5 physical assaults on Konsakhul villagers, including the village chief, secretary, pastor, and others, allegedly by Leilon Vaiphei villagers.
The documented proceedings state:
• Both parties expressed concern over the escalating situation and emphasized the need for a peaceful and cordial relationship between the two communities.
• SAHILCA accepted full moral responsibility for the incident and issued a formal apology to the UNC on behalf of the Leilon Vaiphei villagers.
• SAHILCA agreed to perform Naga customary rituals and provide a lump sum compensation of ₹1,00,000 (one lakh rupees) to the victims for medical expenses, to be paid within one week.
• It was mutually agreed that the involved parties, including community leaders, SAHILCA, and the Joint Tribe Council (JTC), would work toward a permanent resolution of the land dispute through tribal customary law under the supervision of the UNC Working Committee.
