Kangpokpi, August 9: The Working Committee of Kuki Civil Society Organisations (WCKCSOs) has called off its economic blockade along National Highway-2 in Kangpokpi district with immediate effect, following intervention by the Governor of Manipur.
In a statement issued on Saturday “in public interest,” the committee said the 20-plus days of total communal blockade against the Kuki-Zo community had caused “tremendous hardship and suffering,” but acknowledged that the Governor’s efforts paved the way for reopening the vital Kangpokpi–Churachandpur route.

The committee expressed gratitude to the United Naga Council for “localizing the current issue and upholding humanitarian principles,” and thanked well-wishers and the Kuki-Zo community for their support during the blockade.
While announcing the withdrawal, the Kuki CSOs cautioned that they “will never allow any organization to dictate terms along our lifelines” and urged their people to be prepared to voice democratic protests if necessary in the future.
The decision comes a day after the Foothill Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC) lifted its blockade following discussions with Manipur government representatives.
