CHURACHANDPUR, May 6: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has issued a sharp condemnation of the Rashtrahit Sarvopari Sangathan (RSS) and affiliated Hindu organisations over their announcement to launch the “Chalo Manipur” march. In a press release issued on Tuesday, KIM described the campaign as “a march for domination, occupation, and ethnic annihilation,” and called for its immediate halt.

According to KIM, the march “openly calls for lakhs of individuals to enter Kuki-inhabited hill areas under the guise of ‘rehabilitating displaced Meiteis’,” but in reality represents a “deliberate attempt to escalate the already volatile situation in Manipur and further incite ethnic violence.”

KIM stated unequivocally that, “This is not a march for peace or rehabilitation.”
It further called attempts to frame the campaign as a religious or humanitarian initiative “disingenuous and dangerous.”

Flagged off in New Delhi by a coalition of right-wing organisations, the march is, according to KIM, “nothing but a reckless mobilization intended to provoke hostilities and disrupt peace in the hills.” The organisation accused the campaign of aligning “disturbingly with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s one-sided governance,” which it said had “openly supported Meitei vigilante groups and has remained silent or complicit when atrocities are committed against tribals.”

KIM expressed alarm that the state machinery “has consistently failed to protect minority hill communities,” alleging that the march was part of “a broader plan to eliminate or forcibly displace Kukis from their ancestral lands.”

Calling for urgent action, the apex Kuki body appealed to the Government of India and security agencies to “immediately intervene and prevent any such provocative march from taking place.” KIM also urged international human rights observers and the national media to “take serious note of this dangerous escalation and hold the responsible parties accountable.”

“If the proposed ‘Chalo Manipur’ goes ahead, Kuki Inpi Manipur will hold the Government of India and the Manipur State Government fully responsible for any resulting violence, loss of life, or destruction of property,” KIM warned.

Reiterating its stance, KIM concluded, “The hills are not a battleground for political experiments, and the resilience of the Kuki-Zo people should not be mistaken for submission.”
