CHURACHANDPUR, Jan 2: The Kuki-Zo Council, the apex body representing the Kuki-Zo cognate tribes, has expressed strong displeasure over the non-implementation of an agreement related to recent acts of violence against Kuki-Zo women in Saibol village. The council accused Manipur state-supervised armed forces (excluding the Indian Army) of committing inhumane and brutal acts and criticized the authorities for failing to honor the terms of the agreement.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the council stated that the non-implementation of the agreement reflects negligence in maintaining peace within the designated “buffer zone” established between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei regions.
The “buffer zone,” created by state and central authorities, is intended as a neutral point to prevent conflict between the two communities. However, the council highlighted the need for stronger measures to ensure neither side crosses into the other’s territory to launch attacks.
The Kuki-Zo Council emphasized that the Kuki-Zo community has been the target of persecution and attempts at total annihilation, making the maintenance of the buffer zone critical for peace. The council called for the immediate implementation of the agreement within 12 hours, warning that failure to comply would result in an economic blockade across all Kuki-Zo inhabited districts in Manipur.
