SENAPATI, March 13: The Kuki-Zo Council has solemnly announced the martyrdom of Lalgouthang Singsit, who they describe his death as heroic and sacrificed his life for the cause of the Kuki-Zo people.
According to the press release, they Kuki-Zo Council stated that his courageous and noble act has secured his place in history, with his memory forever etched in the hearts of the Kuki-Zo community.
Singsit was laid to rest at the Kuki-Zo Martyr Cemetery in Phaijang, Sadar Hills, in a ceremony honoring his contributions. The council pledged that his martyrdom would not be in vain and reaffirmed its commitment to the struggle for justice and dignity for the Kuki-Zo people.
Alongside this announcement, the Kuki-Zo Council officially declared the lifting of the indefinite shutdown previously called by the council. The shutdown will end at 7:30 PM on March 13, 2025. The decision, they stated, was made after careful deliberation.
However, they made it clear that while the shutdown has been lifted, the Free Movement policy announced by the Home Ministry will be strongly opposed by the Kuki-Zo people. They believe the policy undermines and dilutes the justice process. The Council emphasized that until justice is duly served for the Kuki-Zo people, they will vehemently resist any move toward unrestricted free movement.
The statement reiterated the council’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of martyrs, including Lalgouthang Singsit, are honored. It reaffirmed their demand for a separate political administration to secure justice, peace, and progress for the Kuki-Zo people.
The Kuki-Zo Council urged all relevant authorities to recognize and respect their legitimate demands and work towards a peaceful resolution that ensures justice and security for their people.
