Kuki-Zomi-Hmar Leaders Appeal for Peace Amid Fresh Violence in Churachandpur

CHURACHANDPUR, March 19: In the wake of recent violent clashes between the Zomi and Hmar communities in Churachandpur, the leaders of Kuki, Zomi, and Hmar tribal groups have called for peace and communal harmony. The recent unrest has resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property, prompting these community leaders to take urgent action to restore peace and promote unity in the district.

In a joint appeal, they emphasizes the deep-rooted cultural and historical bonds among the communities of Churachandpur, calling for reconciliation and fostering mutual respect among all ethnic and religious groups. The leaders emphasized their commitment to working toward non-violence and peaceful coexistence, condemning all forms of violence, including hate speech and property destruction.

They also called for the resolution of disputes through peaceful dialogue rather than through aggression, while ensuring the safeguarding of abandoned properties in accordance with the directives of the Supreme Court of India. Furthermore, the appeal urged religious denominations and churches to discourage their communities from engaging in violence, underscoring the collective responsibility to promote peace.

Additionally, the appeal highlighted the establishment of a Joint Peace Committee to monitor and address potential misunderstandings between the communities, preventing further conflict and promoting harmony moving forward.

In a parallel effort, six Kuki-Zo MLAs have appealed for peace and harmony in Churachandpur, urging their communities to uphold the values of forgiveness, resilience, and peaceful conflict resolution. This appeal reminded the people of Churachandpur that despite the challenges they face, their forefathers have always emphasized the importance of unity and reconciliation. The appeal also calls on the state government and district administration to prioritize law and order and the restoration of peace in the district.
