Leaders Extend Warm Greetings to Nagaland on Statehood Day; PM Hails ‘Glorious Naga Culture’

NEW DELHI, Dec 1: National leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Monday extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Nagaland on the occasion of their Statehood Day, praising the state’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and journey of progress.

Prime Minister Modi, in a message on X, said Nagaland’s “glorious culture, rooted in service, courage and compassion, is widely admired,” adding that its people have excelled in various fields. “May the state keep moving ahead with prosperity and progress in the years ahead,” he said.

Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, also conveyed his wishes, highlighting the state’s ecological richness and cultural vibrancy. “Your beautiful hills, rich biodiversity, and vibrant cultures add so much to India’s diversity,” he posted on X, urging collective efforts to preserve Nagaland’s unique heritage.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed Nagaland as a land of “vibrant cultures and proud traditions,” commending its steady journey toward harmony and development. “May the state reach new heights of peace, development and prosperity,” he wrote.

Nagaland, established on December 1, 1963, after the enactment of the State of Nagaland Act, 1962, marked its 62nd Statehood Day alongside the inauguration of the 10-day Hornbill Festival — an annual cultural extravaganza that brings together all major Naga tribes to showcase their living traditions through music, dance, crafts and cuisine.
