Lebanon Imposes Ban on Pagers and Walkie-Talkies in Flights After Explosions

Beirut, Sept 19:   In response to a series of deadly explosions involving pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members, Lebanese authorities have banned these devices from flights departing from Beirut. The National News Agency reports that the ban follows attacks earlier this week that killed at least 37 people and injured over 3,000.

The Lebanese Civil Aviation Directorate has directed airlines to prohibit passengers from bringing pagers and walkie-talkies onto flights and to stop their shipment by air. The explosions, which occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday, have been attributed by Lebanon and Hezbollah to Israel, though Israel has not claimed responsibility.

The Lebanese army is carrying out controlled detonations of suspicious telecom devices and has urged citizens to report any such items. The ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, exacerbated by recent hostilities linked to the Gaza war, has heightened tensions in the region.
