Imphal, September 16: The Liangmai–Imphal Market was inaugurated today at the Ideal Club, Sagolband Tera Keithel, in a landmark step aimed at deepening both economic cooperation and cultural exchange between the Liangmai community and Imphal city.
The event, hosted by the Liangmai–Imphal Market Committee, drew community leaders, farmers, and public representatives. Former CM and Heingang MLA N. Biren Singh attended as Chief Guest, while Tamei MLA Awangbow Newmai and Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor (Keba) Singh graced the programme as Guests of Honour.
Calling the new market “a bridge of unity,” Biren Singh said it would provide a common platform for farmers, entrepreneurs, and consumers to come together, strengthening both trade and inter-community harmony.
The inauguration included the opening of stalls offering fresh produce, vegetables, fruits, and other farm goods directly from Liangmai farmers, creating a sustainable link between growers and buyers in Imphal.
Organisers expressed hope that the initiative would become a permanent hub for local trade, supporting farmers’ livelihoods, ensuring fresh supplies for consumers, and promoting self-reliance and prosperity across communities in Manipur.
