IMPHAL, Dec 30: Light snowfall is expected in the higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh over the next few days, while most parts of the Northeast are likely to experience dry weather accompanied by fog and a gradual dip in night temperatures, according to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The five-day outlook released by the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, indicated that isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh may receive light rain, with snowfall expected in higher altitudes. Assam may also witness light rain at isolated locations on certain days, while dry conditions will prevail across Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Meteorologists said that minimum temperatures across the region will remain largely unchanged, though night temperatures may dip in the coming days. Morning conditions are expected to be challenging, with shallow to moderate fog predicted at isolated locations across all Northeastern states, and dense fog possible in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and Manipur.

The IMD attributed the current weather pattern to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Bangladesh, persisting at around 1.5 km above mean sea level, while another circulation over northeast Assam has weakened.
