NEW DELHI, April 7: The price of domestic LPG cylinders has been increased by ₹50 per 14.2 kg cylinder for both subsidised and non-subsidised consumers, effective April 8, 2025. The announcement was made by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday.
The hike will impact all consumers, including beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). “For PMUY beneficiaries, the price will rise from ₹500 to ₹550 per cylinder. For other consumers, it will increase from ₹803 to ₹853,” said Minister Puri. He further clarified that this revision is subject to the periodic reviews that take place every two to three weeks.
Earlier on April 1, oil marketing companies had reduced the price of commercial LPG cylinders, providing temporary relief at the start of the financial year. The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was slashed by ₹41. Following the reduction, the revised retail selling price in Delhi stands at ₹1,762 per cylinder.
India relies heavily on imports for domestic LPG, with around 60 per cent of the national requirement being imported. Consequently, the price of LPG in India is closely linked to global market trends.
As per data tabled in Parliament during the recently concluded session, the number of PMUY beneficiaries receiving subsidised LPG cylinders had reached 10.33 crore as of March 1, 2025. The total number of active domestic LPG consumers across the country stands at 32.94 crore.
Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi noted in a written reply to the Lok Sabha that the average international price of LPG rose significantly—by 63 per cent—from US$385 per metric ton in July 2023 to US$629 per metric ton in February 2025. However, he highlighted that despite the surge in global prices, the effective domestic LPG price for PMUY consumers had been reduced by 44 per cent, from ₹903 in August 2023 to ₹503 in February 2025.
Until the latest revision, the retail selling price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder was ₹803 in Delhi, with a ₹300 subsidy per cylinder for PMUY beneficiaries. The domestic LPG price had remained unchanged since August 2024.
