SENAPATI, Oct 7: The 2nd Edition of the Senapati District Veteran Football Tournament concluded with an enthusiastic valedictory ceremony at the Astro Turf in Senapati, showcasing the competitive spirit among veteran football teams in the region.
The event which started at 1:00 PM, was moderated by Mr. Kangba Lovejoy. Mr. L. Ashihrii Pfozhe, a member of the Chief Organizing Committee, introduced the participants and highlighted the tournament’s role in promoting a football culture among veterans.
The valedictory function featured speeches from distinguished guests, including Mr. Boveio Poukai, Chief Administrative Officer of the Shepoumaramth Region, and YK. Achan, Executive Officer of the Maram Thangal Region. Both speakers emphasized the importance of sports in strengthening community bonds and encouraging a healthy lifestyle for veterans.
Mr. P. Isreal Ngiimei, General Secretary of the Senapati District Veteran Football Association (SDVFA), expressed his gratitude to all participants, organizers, and supporters who contributed to the tournament’s success.
The final match kicked off with high energy, as Makhrelui Veteran Football Club faced Katomei Area Veteran Football Club. The match showcased impressive skills and determination from both teams. In the end, Makhrelui Veteran Football Club secured a 1-0 victory, claiming the title and furthering their legacy in the tournament.
Individual awards were also presented, with Lameo of Makhrelui Veteran FC receiving the Golden Glove, Treson winning the Golden Boot, Robert being named the Man of the Tournament and Victor was honored as the Best Defender. Ngouning of Oklong Veteran FC as the Oldest Player and Isreal from Katomei Area Veteran FC as Best Midfielder.
This successful event not only highlighted the talent and commitment of veteran players but also reinforced the significance of community involvement through sports in Senapati District. The SDVFA looks forward to continuing this tradition and promoting football among veterans in the years to come.
