IMPHAL, Jan 15: Security forces arrested a 32-year-old man along with a large quantity of heroin in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, police said on Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as P.K. Shektak, a resident of Pearsonmun village in Churachandpur district. He was apprehended on January 13 from Lamzang village under the jurisdiction of Churachandpur Police Station.
During the operation, security personnel recovered 220 soap cases containing heroin from his possession. Police also seized a four-wheeler Bolero bearing registration number MZ 01G-1142, which was allegedly used for transporting the contraband.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to determine the source of the narcotics and to ascertain possible links with larger drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
The arrest is part of intensified operations by security forces to curb the trafficking of illegal drugs in the hill districts of Manipur.
