SENAPATI, May 9: In a significant development, security forces uncovered a major cache of arms and ammunition during a joint operation in Taphou Kuki village, in Senapati district, on Thursday. The operation was conducted by the Assam Rifles under Spear Corps, in close coordination with the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Border Security Force (BSF).
According to police sources, the operation was initiated following credible intelligence inputs about the presence of armed personnel believed to be associated with the Kuki-Zo tribal groups in the area. The two-hour-long search operation led to the recovery of several weapons, though no arrests were made as the suspected militants reportedly fled upon spotting the advancing security personnel.
The recovered items included two Bolt Action Single Barrel Rifles, one .22 Rifle with a magazine, a 9 mm Pistol with a magazine, two 9 mm live rounds, seven .22 live rounds, and 18 empty 12-bore cartridges.
All seized arms and ammunition have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and processing. Authorities are continuing efforts to trace the absconding individuals and assess the implications of the arms stockpile.
