Manipur: Authorities Destroy 50 Acres of Illegal Poppy Cultivation in Kangpokpi

KANGPOKPI, Feb 28: Authorities in Manipur have successfully dismantled 50 acres of illegal poppy cultivation in Kangpokpi, as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. The operation, conducted on February 27, targeted the riverbanks of Ethoi, located at Somphung village in Lhungtin Sub-Division, Kangpokpi.

A joint team consisting of Kangpokpi District Police, CRPF, Forest Division Kangpokpi, and the SDC Saikul Block launched the mission, which resulted in the destruction of approximately 50 acres of illicit poppy plants. This move is a continuation of the authorities’ efforts to curb the illegal poppy cultivation that has been a growing concern in the state.

The operation reflects the strong commitment of law enforcement agencies to tackle the issue of drug cultivation and trafficking, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

Earlier this week, security forces and the Forest Division of Kangpokpi, under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), dismantled another large illegal poppy plantation in the hill ranges of Naphai, Manipur. Around 35 acres of illicit poppy cultivation were eradicated in that operation, with an estimated market value of Rs 3.90 crore.
