IMPHAL, April 7: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manipur Pradesh unit, has strongly condemned the arson attack on the residence of Askar Ali Makakmayum, the President of BJP Minority Morcha, Manipur Pradesh. The incident took place late on the night of April 6, 2025, in Lilong Shambrukhong Manai, when an unidentified mob allegedly set Ali’s property on fire.

Party officials have expressed grave concern over the act, calling it “deeply unfortunate and unacceptable.” In their official statement, the BJP Manipur Pradesh urged law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.

Tensions in the state escalated following a controversial social media post made by Mohammad Askar Ali, a prominent Meitei-Pangal (Manipuri Muslim) leader from the Lilong constituency in Thoubal district. Earlier on April 6, Ali had publicly expressed his support for the Waqf Amendment Bill through a post on social media.

However, following severe backlash from his community, he later posted a video on Facebook apologizing for his position and retracting his support. Despite his retraction, the situation took a violent turn, culminating in the arson attack on his home later that night.
