IMPHAL, Nov 18: The Central Bureau of Investigation, Anti Corruption Bureau Imphal on Tuesday arrested a government official for demanding and accepting bribe.
A statement by agency said “CBI, ACB Imphal caught red handed one staff of O/o the Principal Accountant General (A&E) Imphal, namely Irom Bishorjit Singh, senior accountant, GOE section while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10000” for processing a file at a staff of FSL Pangei.
In its effort to curb rampant corruption occuring in government offices, the CBI laid a trap on Tuesday and caught the official red-handed while accepting the bribe, it said.
He had demanded Rs 20,000 from the complainant in lieu of getting MACP file cleared.
Investigation is in progress and searches are being conducted at the premise of the accused official, it said.
