IMPHAL, May 29: The Manipur State Government today held a press briefing at the Old Secretariat Conference Hall in Imphal to update the public on recent developments concerning the Shirui Festival 2025 and an incident that occurred on May 20 involving journalists.
Chief Secretary P.K. Singh, accompanied by Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, highlighted the successful organization of the Shirui Festival in Ukhrul, which attracted approximately 1.70 lakh visitors from across diverse communities within and outside the state. Singh emphasized that the festival was conducted in a secure and peaceful environment, facilitated by the state administration’s robust security arrangements, marking a significant step towards restoring normalcy in the region.
Addressing concerns related to the May 20 incident, where a Manipur State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus carrying journalists was reportedly stopped and the state’s name on the vehicle was obscured, Singh clarified that no government directive existed to cover the state’s identity. He stated that both the government and political leadership have denied such claims and underscored that the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
The Governor of Manipur has constituted a high-level Inquiry Committee comprising the Commissioner (Home) and Secretary (IT) to probe the incident. The committee is expected to submit its report within a stipulated timeframe. Singh assured the public that appropriate action will be taken against any officials found responsible for negligence or misconduct.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to peace and unity, Singh noted that events like the Shirui Festival play a crucial role in fostering communal harmony across Manipur. He called upon all citizens to support the administration’s efforts to maintain public order and contribute to ongoing peace-building initiatives.
