Kangpokpi, August 8: Manipur’s newly appointed Chief Secretary, Puneet Kumar Goel, IAS, undertook a visit to two key relief camps in Kangpokpi district on Friday, assuring internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the government’s commitment to their safe and dignified resettlement.

Accompanied by Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Principal Secretary (Agriculture), Goel toured the Ngahmun Prefabricated Relief Camp in Champhai Sub-Division and the Mandop Relief Camp in Kangpokpi Sub-Division. Addressing residents, he reiterated that restoring IDPs to their original homes remains a top priority, with state police and paramilitary forces working to ensure a secure return.

Goel engaged directly with camp inmates, including students and elderly residents, listening to their concerns and offering guidance on accessing government welfare schemes. He also distributed stationery kits and sports equipment to encourage educational and recreational activities among displaced children.

While many residents expressed gratitude for the continued provision of essentials, they also flagged issues such as the absence of examination centres, which they warned could disrupt students’ academic progress.
