IMPHAL, March 22: The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has taken suo motu cognizance of the brutal murder of a 9-year-old internally displaced girl in Churachandpur and vowed to initiate legal proceedings to ensure justice.
The victim, a Class II student residing in a relief camp, was found dead at Lingsiphai, Lanva TD Block, on the night of March 20, 2025, at around 11:30 p.m. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, prompting the MCPCR to act swiftly.
“MCPCR shall take up Suo motu Cognizance of the incident to take up a necessary legal course of action,” stated an official release from the Commission.
MCPCR Chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar condemned the act as an “unforgivable attack on innocence,” emphasizing that children must be protected at all costs, irrespective of the ongoing conflicts in the state. He also called on the authorities to ensure the safety of displaced families in the region.
