IMPHAL, April 12: Host state Manipur has emerged as the overall team champion of the 68th National School Games 2024-25, dominating in various disciplines including weightlifting and Thang-Ta, the traditional martial art of Manipur. The games, held under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and organized by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, concluded on Saturday in Imphal. The championship began on April 7.
More than 860 athletes and officials from 28 states and Union Territories participated in the week-long competition.
In weightlifting (U-17 boys), Manipur secured first place with 192 points, narrowly edging past Punjab, which finished as runner-up with 188 points. In the U-17 girls category, Manipur again led the tally with 232 points, followed by Maharashtra with 210 points. With a total of 424 points in weightlifting, Manipur was declared the overall team champion in the discipline.
The state also showcased its prowess in Thang-Ta, winning the overall team championship in both U-14 and U-19 boys and girls categories. In the U-14 boys segment, Manipur secured the top spot with Uttar Pradesh as runners-up. In the U-14 girls division, Manipur claimed first place while Delhi came in second.
In the U-19 boys category, Manipur took the championship title, with Jammu and Kashmir finishing second. The U-19 girls also brought home the gold for Manipur, with Delhi again finishing as runners-up.
With sweeping wins across multiple divisions and sports, Manipur’s athletes demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship, bringing pride to the state in this national-level event.
