Imphal, August 20: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday organised a motorcycle rally to mark the 81st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, with a call for peace, communal harmony, and national integration.
The rally, flagged off by Congress Legislative Party leader Okram Ibobi Singh from the party headquarters in Imphal, saw the participation of over 500 bikers covering seven assembly constituencies in the valley.
State Congress president Keisham Meghachandra, who led the rally, said the programme was not only to commemorate the late Prime Minister but also to spread his vision of unity. “Manipur has been grappling with unrest since 2023. Through this rally, we wish to remind people of the importance of peace, coexistence, and communal harmony,” he said.
He added that Rajiv Gandhi’s legacy of promoting national integration remained relevant today. “We want to live together and achieve permanent harmony,” Meghachandra said, reiterating the Congress’ appeal to restore normalcy in the violence-hit state.
