IMPHAL, Dec 18: As part of the nationwide “Raj Bhawan Chalo” campaign organized by the Congress party, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has submitted an urgent memorandum to the Governor of Manipur, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, demanding immediate action to restore peace and normalcy in the state. The memorandum, signed by MPCC President K. Meghachandra Singh and Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) K. Ranjit Singh, detailed the ongoing violence, curfews, and lawlessness affecting parts of Manipur for the past 19 months.

Led by MPCC President K. Meghachandra Singh, Gaikhangam, a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Deputy CLP Leader K. Ranjit Singh, former Speaker and Congress Legislature Chief Whip Th. Lokeshwar Singh, and MLA Surjakumar Okram, the “Raj Bhawan Chalo” campaign began at Congress Bhawan, Imphal. The party leaders criticized both the central and state BJP-led governments for their failure to address the ongoing crisis.

The Congress memorandum emphasized the lack of effective action by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has not visited Manipur despite the severity of the situation. The party also accused Chief Minister N. Biren Singh of failing to take decisive measures to restore peace.

Among their key demands, Congress highlighted the urgent need for the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who fled their homes due to ethnic violence. Thousands remain displaced, and Congress urged the Governor to ensure their safe return and the establishment of secure systems for free movement between the valley and hill areas, which remain tense.

Congress leaders also stressed the need for improved security across the state, arguing that the ongoing violence is preventing normalcy and creating an atmosphere of fear. The party warned that the unrest in Manipur poses a broader threat to national stability and called for immediate action to restore law and order.

The memorandum and protest in Manipur were part of Congress’s larger nationwide campaign. Protests were held across India on December 18, 2024, focusing on two key issues: the violence in Manipur and the indictment of industrialist Gautam Adani by a US court. Congress leaders expressed concerns about the allegations against Adani, claiming they tarnished India’s international image, and demanded Prime Minister Modi’s intervention in both matters.

The nationwide “Raj Bhawan Chalo” campaign showcased Congress’s demands for decisive action to address the ethnic violence in Manipur and the allegations against Gautam Adani, with party leaders across the country calling on the Prime Minister to intervene urgently.
