Imphal, Oct 9:  The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has sharply criticized the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons issued to its President, Keisham Meghachandra Singh, calling it a case of “political vendetta” by the ruling BJP government.

At a press conference held in Congress Bhavan, Imphal, on Tuesday, Senior MPCC Spokesperson N. Bupenda Meitei denounced the timing and intent of the summons, which was delivered on October 7, requiring Meghachandra to appear in New Delhi the same day. Meitei argued that this was an attempt to silence the opposition, particularly given Meghachandra’s outspoken criticism of the BJP’s “double engine” governments at the Centre and in the state.

Meitei stressed that it was impossible for Meghachandra to comply with the notice on such short notice, accusing the BJP of using intimidation tactics against those who challenge the government’s failures, especially regarding the ongoing unrest in Manipur since May 2023. He also highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not visited the state since the crisis began 17 months ago.

The Congress reaffirmed its stance against the BJP, stating that such actions would not deter them from continuing to expose the government’s mismanagement. Meitei added, “Those who are afraid, intimidate. But the Congress will not retreat.”

The MPCC emphasized that this move is meant to divert attention from the BJP’s inability to address the ongoing turmoil in Manipur and vowed to persist in holding the government accountable
