Imphal, July 25: In a decisive move to curb illegal immigration, the Manipur government has constituted Special Task Forces (STFs) in every district following a strict advisory issued by the State Home Commissioner-cum-Secretary on July 23. These STFs, embedded within district police units, have been tasked with detecting, verifying, and initiating legal action against illegal immigrants residing in the state.
According to Manipur Police, a uniform Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been circulated to guide the process of identifying and verifying individuals, including nationals from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar (Rohingyas). The SOP aims to ensure coordinated and legally sound enforcement across all districts.
Revised directives issued by the Police Headquarters include specific instructions on identifying undocumented individuals, restricting their movement, and initiating deportation proceedings. The initiative underscores the state’s heightened vigilance in light of increasing concerns over illegal immigration and its potential implications for security and demographic stability.
The police emphasized that the issue is being addressed with utmost seriousness and urgency.
