Imphal, August 18: In a shocking incident, Manipur Police arrested a serving constable along with an accomplice for allegedly extorting money, looting mobile phones, and intimidating the public with toy guns in Imphal East.
The accused have been identified as Khulakpam Amumacha (38), a constable attached to the CID (Special Branch) from Bishnupur district, and Tampakmayum Arshad (25), both residents of Thoubal district.
According to officials, the duo was caught by locals in Andro on Saturday night while threatening people and looting mobile phones at gunpoint. Upon realizing the weapons were fake, the mob apprehended them and handed them over to the police, along with an Alto car (AS0AV 5654) seized from their possession.
“During preliminary interrogation, the duo confessed to using toy guns to extort money and intimidate people,” a police official confirmed.
Both were produced before a duty magistrate on Sunday and remanded to 10 days’ police custody.
