Imphal, September 6: Security forces, in coordinated operations across Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts, arrested five individuals for alleged involvement in drug peddling and trafficking. Multiple banned substances, including heroin and cough syrups, were seized, along with cash and incriminating materials. The operations are part of the state’s intensified crackdown on narcotics and insurgent activities.
In a major operation on September 4, four individuals from Khomidok Karong village under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East were apprehended. The accused have been identified as Mariyam Begum (54), Abdul Matalib (36), Md. Umar (28), and Ruhina (30). The police recovered 129 grams of heroin No. 4, 137 empty vials, 14 syringes, seven mobile phones, and ₹1,23,750 in cash from their possession.

On the same day, Thoubal Police arrested Asem Somanda Singh from his residence in Khekman Makha Leikai. Seized items included three boxes of SAMPFX+, two boxes of SPAS-TRASCEN-PLUS, 15 bottles of TUSSREX-TR cough syrup, and one bottle of BESCODEX, often misused as a recreational drug.
In a related development, a self-styled lance corporal of the banned outfit United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), Laiphrakpam Debananda Singh alias Angangcha alias Nongshaba (34), was arrested on September 5 from Laipham Khunou Makha Leikai in Imphal East district.

Additionally, two active members of the proscribed outfit People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were nabbed at the Ngariyan Naka check point under Andro Police Station, Imphal East. Identified as Nongmaithem Usham Pakpi Devi (46) and Leihaorongbam Premi Devi (39), the duo was found in possession of 15 PREPAK demand letters, a two-wheeler, and two mobile phones.
Further operations led to the arrest of two PREPAK (Pro) cadres from Pangaltabi and Chairel Mangjing areas in Kakching and Bishnupur districts. The accused, Laishram Thoithoi alias Lanthouba (23) and Laishram Bhumeswar alias Ingba (45), were residents of Chairel Mangjing. Items recovered included a mobile handset with SIM card, Aadhaar card, and an Activa scooter.
