SENAPATI, Jan 30: The Manipur government is set to present a proposal regarding the creation of seven new districts in the state during the next round of tripartite talks scheduled for April 2025.
This decision follows the latest round of discussions on January 30 between the representatives of the Centre, the Manipur state government, and the United Naga Council (UNC), the apex body of Naga tribes in the region.
The statement issued after the meeting was jointly signed by Commissioner (Home) N. Ashok Kumar of the Manipur government, Advisor NE (MHA) A.K. Mishra, and UNC president Ng Lorho. It highlighted that the discussions primarily revolved around the establishment of the seven new districts by the Manipur government in December 2016, and the UNC’s ongoing demand for their rollback.
“After threadbare discussions, it was mutually agreed that a proposal will be presented by representatives of the state government in the next tripartite meeting which will be held in April 2025,” the statement read.
