IMPHAL, April 4: In a significant crackdown on insurgent activities, the Indian Army, in a joint operation with civil police, arrested 11 insurgents from various militant groups across three districts—Imphal West, Imphal East, and Thoubal—on Thursday. The arrests highlight the continuing security challenges in Manipur, a sensitive and strategically important border state.
The coordinated operation led to the seizure of a .32 pistol loaded with four live rounds, three two-wheelers, 11 mobile phones along with SIM cards, ₹2,400 in cash, and several incriminating documents. The arrested insurgents, aged between 24 and 49, were reportedly involved in extorting money from local businesses, transporters, government offices, and schools.

Among those arrested, two individuals belong to the Kangleipak Community Party (KCP-Noyol group), two to the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), two to the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak), one each from the KCP (People’s War Group), Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (Socialist Revolutionary Party), Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL), the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and KCP (City Meitei).
These arrests come shortly after the central government extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in Manipur, declaring the entire state a ‘disturbed area’ for six months starting April 1, 2025. However, certain police station areas in five districts have been excluded from this extension.
The crackdown is being seen as a major success in the government’s continued efforts to restore peace and security in the violence-hit state. Authorities reiterated their commitment to taking strong and decisive action against militancy and insurgent activities across the region.
