SENAPATI, March 5: The Kuki Alliance for Nampi Awakening Movement (KANAM) has issued a stern warning against the Federation of Civil Society Organization (FOCS) and its supporters, advising them to refrain from carrying out a peace march in Manipur’s Kuki territories. The warning comes after FOCS announced plans to conduct a mass rally for peace and harmony, scheduled to begin on March 8, in the red zones of the state.
KANAM, in a statement, accused the FOCS of attempting to challenge the authority of the Kuki-Zo people, calling the peace expedition a provocative act of aggression. They warned that anyone attempting to enter the Kuki territories would face serious consequences. The group emphasized that the government no longer governs the Kuki territories, and any intrusion would be considered an act of war.
The peace march, organized by FOCS, is intended to demonstrate the Union government’s commitment to ensuring free movement along national highways in Manipur, as promised by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The rally is expected to cover areas previously inaccessible to the Meitei community due to the ongoing conflict that erupted on May 3, 2023.
FOCS, on the other hand, maintains that the rally is aimed at testing the Union government’s sincerity in restoring peace and normalcy to the state.
