Imphal, October 6: The Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat has categorically denied recent media reports alleging a ₹29 crore withdrawal from its funds, calling the claims “entirely false and misleading.”
In an official statement released on Monday, N. Robindro Singh, Deputy Director and Officer-in-Charge of Protocol & Media Relations, clarified that a thorough internal review had revealed no such financial transaction ever occurred. The reports were originally published by Naorem Mohen, Editor of Signpost News, and later picked up by India Today NE on September 26, 2025. The story was subsequently circulated by several local print and electronic media outlets.
Singh criticized the media houses involved for failing to verify the information with the Assembly Secretariat prior to publication, stating that the failure to do so contributed to the spread of misinformation and public confusion.
“The Secretariat strongly refutes the baseless allegations made in the reports. We urge all media organizations that published this false information to retract their stories and issue a public clarification,” the statement read.
The Assembly Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical governance, emphasizing that such reports undermine public trust in democratic institutions.
The controversy has sparked a broader conversation around journalistic responsibility and the need for fact-checking before dissemination of sensitive information. As of now, the media outlets involved have not issued any public retractions or clarifications.
