IMPHAL, Nov 7: Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla today presided over the 150th anniversary celebration of India’s national song, Vande Mataram, at the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) in the Palace Compound, Imphal. The event was attended by several MLAs, the Chief Secretary, senior officials, and distinguished guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Bhalla described Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875, as more than just a song—calling it a “powerful declaration of love and devotion to the motherland.” He recalled its role as the heartbeat of India’s freedom struggle and noted its adoption as the national song by the Constituent Assembly in 1950, emphasizing its lasting influence on India’s national identity.
