IMPHAL, June 30: Inner Manipur Member of Parliament MP Prof. A. Bimol Akoijam has alleged that he was prevented from entering a locality within his own constituency, Phougakchou-Ikhai Makha Leikai Keithel in Bishnupur district, on the evening of June 29, despite a strong presence of security personnel, including the Indian Army.
Taking to social media platform X, Akoijam expressed dismay and questioned the denial of access to an elected representative in his own jurisdiction. “I, an elected Member of Lok Sabha, was stopped from visiting Phougakchou-Ikhai Makha Leikai Keithel (Bazar) in Bishnupur District, which falls within my parliamentary constituency (Inner Manipur) today, despite the heavy presence of security forces, including the Indian Army,” he wrote.
The MP further alleged that civilians belonging to other communities, including Pangals (Manipuri Muslims), were reportedly allowed to cross the area, while he was denied passage. He described this act as discriminatory and symptomatic of a larger, troubling development.
Prof. Akoijam went on to criticize what he termed the “clandestine” enforcement of an “imaginary and unconstitutional line,” referring to the controversial buffer zone that has emerged in the aftermath of ongoing ethnic unrest in the state. He accused the authorities of institutionalizing a “communally founded division” within Manipur through such measures.
“The ongoing crisis in Manipur can only be resolved through honest and determined efforts—not lies and cynical approaches,” the MP asserted, calling for genuine political will to restore peace and normalcy in the conflict-ridden state.
Concluding his statement with a note of hope, Akoijam said, “Let truth, justice, and peace prevail.”
