Imphal, August 20: The Office of Manipur’s Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament has lodged a formal complaint with Porompat Police Station against a resident of Kabo Leikai, Imphal, for allegedly posting derogatory remarks on social media targeting the MP.
The complaint, filed on Wednesday, identified the accused as Sanaton Meitei and referred to a post dated August 18, which purportedly cast aspersions on the bloodline of Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba. The remarks were described as “the highest form of offence” against the titular king.
Rejecting allegations that the Arambai Tengol is a private army of the Maharaja, the complaint clarified that his involvement with the group is restricted to supporting it as an indigenous cultural body. It also defended the MP’s political decisions as being made in the larger interest of the state, highlighting his active interventions in Parliament, particularly on issues concerning internally displaced persons.
Terming the social media remarks “unfounded, poor in taste, and not based on facts,” the complaint urged police to register an FIR against the accused. “Right to expression does not mean to say whatever one pleases,” it stated, adding that maligning the character of a public figure should not go unpunished.
