IMPHAL, Feb 5: The Working President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Kh. Debabrata, strongly criticized BJP spokespersons for misleading the public about Congress MP Akoijam Bimol’s speech in the Lok Sabha regarding the President’s speech.

Debabrata also condemned BJP Manipur Pradesh spokespersons M. Suresh and K. Sarat for falsely claiming that Article 355 was enforced in Manipur, pointing out that Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had clarified in the last Assembly session that Article 355 is not in effect in the state.

Debabrata demanded clarification from either the Chief Minister or BJP Manipur Pradesh on who was telling the truth. If the BJP spokespersons’ statements were accurate, he argued, then Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had misled the state Assembly. Debabrata also addressed allegations against Bimol for stating that “the state is nurturing armed groups,” explaining that the Congress Party had always advocated for the protection of village defenders and called for a law to protect them, including granting amnesty to those who obtained arms for village protection.

Additionally, Debabrata defended Bimol’s concerns raised in Parliament regarding the deprivation of rights in Manipur. He highlighted Bimol’s discussion about the plight of 60,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs), the disappearance of Kamal Babu inside the Leimakhong Army camp, and violations of constitutional rights. Debabrata further criticized the BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its “fascist tendencies” and compared Modi to Hitler’s Nazi regime.
