Manipur Police Arrest PLA Militant, Recover Arms and Ammunition in Separate Operations

IMPHAL, March 15: In a significant development, the Manipur Police arrested an active militant belonging to the banned outfit People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on March 14. The arrested individual, identified as Thokchom Diamond Meitei, aged 26, was taken into custody from Langmeidong Mamang Leikai in Kakching district. He was reportedly involved in extorting money from school staff and threatening them in the Langmeidong area.

From his possession, the police seized a mobile phone and a wallet containing Rs 320 in cash. The arrest comes as part of the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb militant activities and restore peace in the region.

In a separate operation, security forces launched a search operation in the Dampi ridge area of Churachandpur district, which led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition. The items recovered included rifles with magazines, a single-barrel gun, locally-made rifles, live ammunition, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), anti-riot stun shells, SMC carbine magazines, a Baofeng radio set, a bulletproof helmet, jungle shoes, and an ammunition pouch.

These operations are part of the ongoing security measures being implemented across the state to address illegal activities and maintain law and order.
