Manipur Police Arrest Three KCP Militants, Seize Arms in Multi-District Crackdown

Imphal, August 12: In a series of coordinated operations across Manipur, security forces have arrested three active cadres of different factions of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) over the past two days, seizing weapons, ammunition, and mobile phones.

On August 11, police apprehended Wakambam Sunilkanta Meitei (25) of Pungdongbam Awang Leikai, an active member of KCP (Apunba City Meitei), from his locality. In a separate raid the same day, Mayengbam Amitab Singh alias Khaba (32), an active cadre of KCP (PWG) linked to a firing incident targeting CDO personnel and threats to NIT Imphal staff, was arrested from Tekcham Maning Ching area under Khongjom Police Station, Thoubal district. Authorities recovered a .32 pistol with magazine, 50 live rounds of assorted calibres, four INSAS magazines, and two mobile phones with SIM cards from his possession.

A day earlier, on August 10, Huidrom Suder Singh alias Sanathoi alias Salai (39) of Sekta Awang Leikai, Imphal East, was arrested from Khurai Chaithabi Leirak under Porompat Police Station. A member of KCP (Noyon), he is accused of extorting funds in the Khabeisoi area to support the outfit’s activities. Two mobile phones were seized from him.

Meanwhile, police continued routine enforcement drives, issuing 21 traffic challans worth ₹39,000 on August 11, removing tinted films from 26 vehicles, and conducting search and domination operations in fringe and vulnerable areas. Across 111 checkpoints set up in the hills and valleys, 11 persons were detained for verification.
