Manipur Police Arrest Two KCP-MFL Cadres Involved in Extortion & Arms Trafficking

IMPHAL, July 30: The Manipur police, in coordination with central security forces, apprehended two active cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party – Meeyamgi Feengang Lanmi (KCP-MFL) for their alleged involvement in a range of serious crimes including extortion, arms trafficking, public shootings, and abduction for ransom.

According to a statement from the Manipur Police, intelligence-led cordon and search operations were conducted extensively on Tuesday across various locations to locate individuals involved in criminal and insurgent activities.

During the operation, security forces arrested Khaidem Nongpoknganba Singh, a resident of Lamlai Mayai Leikai in Imphal East district. He was apprehended from Nongada Awang Leikai under the jurisdiction of Lamlai Police Station.

Based on revelations made during his interrogation, the joint team tracked down and arrested another KCP-MFL operative, Thounaojam Ashokumar Singh of Leiphrakpam Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district. Singh was taken into custody from his hideout at Langthabal Kunja under Singjamei Police Station, Imphal West.

Authorities confirmed that Thounaojam Ashokumar Singh was involved in a firing incident that took place on the night of July 10 at Napet Palli village, Imphal East. He is also suspected of participating in the concealment and transportation of arms and ammunition for the banned militant group.

During the operation, the security team recovered one 9mm pistol with a magazine, two mobile phones, an Aadhaar card, and a wallet containing ₹510 from the duo.

The arrests are part of Manipur’s broader efforts to dismantle extortion networks and militant cells operating in the region. Police reiterated their commitment to upholding law and order and intensifying counter-insurgency operations based on actionable intelligence.
