IMPHAL, June 17: In a major breakthrough against insurgent activities, Manipur Police have apprehended an active cadre of the Chin Kuki National Defence Force/Army (CKNDF/A) – a proscribed non-SoO (Suspension of Operations) group – in Churachandpur district. The individual, identified as Ngamkhosat Touthang alias Sasat (38), was arrested from his residence in B. Ebenezer, Tuibong under Churachandpur Police Station.
According to police officials, Touthang was a key operative involved in a series of serious cross-border crimes, including extortion, kidnapping, arms smuggling, and drug trafficking. These activities were reportedly conducted in coordination with CKNDF/A operatives along the India-Myanmar border.
The arrest follows a prior operation on May 16, 2025, during which police raided Touthang’s suspected hideout and recovered a locally made pistol with three live 9mm rounds, along with five letterheads carrying the CKNDF/A insignia. These findings further strengthened suspicions about his involvement in militant operations.
Police sources confirmed that investigations are ongoing to unravel the larger network associated with Touthang, especially links that may extend across the international border. Security forces remain on high alert to curb any resurgence of insurgent activity in the region.
