Manipur Police Arrests Suspected Extortion Aide in Kangpokpi

KANGPOKPI, April 9: The Anti-Extortion Unit of the Manipur Police Commandos, in coordination with central security forces, arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of assisting underground groups in extortion activities along National Highway-02.

The arrest occurred on Tuesday during a routine patrol operation near PK Workshop between T Khullen and Koubru Laikha, which falls under the jurisdiction of Kangpokpi Police Station in northern Kangpokpi district.

According to police sources, the joint security forces were returning from Koubru Laikha when they came across a group of individuals allegedly halting commercial trucks and collecting money from drivers along the highway.

As the security personnel approached, the group attempted to flee the scene. However, one suspect was apprehended. The arrested individual has been identified as Lunminthang Guite, a resident of Khamenlok, Saikul, located in Kangpokpi district.

Following his arrest, police recovered a smartphone, Rs. 25,000 in cash, and several incriminating documents from Guite. Officials confirmed that he had been aiding underground organizations involved in the extortion of transport vehicles using the highway.

The suspect, along with the seized items, was handed over to the local police authorities. An FIR has been registered in connection with the case, and further legal proceedings are currently underway.
