Manipur Police Deny Reports of Kuki Firing on Meitei Farmers in Chanung

IMPHAL, July 14: Manipur Police have dismissed viral social media reports claiming that members of the Kuki community opened fire on Meitei farmers in the Chanung area under Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency, Imphal East.

In a statement issued Monday, authorities confirmed that no such incident has been officially reported and urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information.

The clarification came after a widely circulated social media message alleged that over 10 rounds were fired at farmers working in the fields in Chanung, and that central security forces had asked them to vacate the area. The Manipur Police responded swiftly, stating that both Yaingangpokpi Police Station and Sagolmang Police Station, along with the 4 Mahar Regiment deployed in the area, reported no such incident.

“Further information is being collected to ascertain the facts,” the police stated, emphasizing that there is currently no confirmation of any firing in the area.
