Manipur Police Destroy Over 330 Kg of Seized Drugs in Eco-Friendly Disposal

Imphal, September 27: In a significant anti-narcotics drive, Manipur Police destroyed more than 330 kilograms of seized drugs on Saturday at the Shija Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment facility in Imphal West.

The destroyed contraband included 6 kg of heroin, 87 kg of brown sugar, and 182 kg of ganja, among other narcotics. Officials confirmed the disposal was conducted under strict supervision, ensuring compliance with both legal mandates and environmental safety standards.

Manipur Police Chief Rajiv Singh said the exercise was carried out in a “safe, environmentally responsible and transparent manner,” stressing that drug disposal is not only a legal obligation but also a moral responsibility.

Singh further noted that the state regularly undertakes such disposal drives every six months to prevent confiscated drugs from re-entering circulation. He also highlighted that several major trafficking cases linked to national-level networks have already been transferred to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for further investigation.

Reiterating the state’s commitment to the Centre’s anti-drug campaign, Singh said Manipur Police remains determined to fight drug trafficking in line with the directives of the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister.
