IMPHAL, May 17: Manipur Police on Saturday has filed an FIR against Paojakhup Guite, President of the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Delhi, for issuing threats against the Meitei community. The action comes after a video surfaced on social media in which Guite allegedly threatened to prevent Meiteis from crossing buffer zones to attend the upcoming 5th State Level Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul district.
In a shocking display of open provocation, Guite was seen using a loudspeaker in a public space to call on the Kuki community to “not spare any Meetei man or woman” who attempts to enter Kuki-dominated areas en route to the festival. The viral video has triggered widespread outrage.
The FIR was registered by Churachandpur Police, which also confirmed that raids are being conducted in neighboring districts to secure Guite’s immediate arrest. “The police of neighbouring States of Mizoram, Assam, Nagaland & Meghalaya etc have been requested for arresting him as quickly as possible,” Manipur police said in an official post on X.
The Shirui Lily Festival, held from May 20 to 24, is an important cultural event organized to celebrate the state flower. Authorities have assured tight security along the nearly 80 km stretch from Imphal to Ukhrul to ensure the safety of all attendees.
