IMPHAL, Nov 27: In a swift operation, Manipur Police successfully rescued Dr. Kh. Nabakeshore, a medical officer abducted on the morning of November 22, 2024, from Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom and threatened harm if their demands were unmet.
Acting on intelligence, police traced the victim to a farmhouse in Lamdeng under the jurisdiction of Lamshang Police Station, where he was safely rescued and apprehended four individuals believed to be involved in the abduction on November 24.
The suspects were identified as Wahengbam Ramananda, alias Rousow, alias Luwangamba, of KCP (MC) Lalumba, Wahengbam Usharani, alias Piyari, alias Abem, Naoraibam Joyshankar, aged 39, and Leichombam Bipin Singh, aged 32. Authorities also recovered two pistols—one 7.65 mm and one .32 mm—with magazines, along with ten live rounds of .32 caliber ammunition from the suspects.
Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Paonam Shamungou, alias Pintu, on November 26. A search at the residence of Wahengbam Ramananda uncovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including additional pistols, a revolver, a .22 rifle, various magazines, rounds of ammunition, and four detonators. Police also found eight soap caps containing substances suspected to be heroin No. 4 at the premises.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to identify and apprehend other accomplices involved in the abduction.
