Imphal, August 20: In a major crackdown under the state’s ongoing “war on drugs,” Manipur Police have arrested three individuals and seized a large quantity of narcotics in separate operations conducted in Churachandpur and Imphal West districts.
On August 19, a team from Singhat Police Station intercepted two suspected drug smugglers near Pioneer Camp along NH-102B in Churachandpur. The arrestees, identified as Lungousiem of Songpi Kholui village and Ngamminlal of Songpi village, were allegedly transporting brown sugar. On checking, police recovered 111 soap cases filled with the substance, weighing about 1.3 kilograms, along with a Yamaha MT 15 motorcycle and a Mahindra Bolero vehicle.

Just a day earlier, on August 18, police from Singjamei Police Station, acting on intelligence inputs, apprehended 34-year-old Kshetrimayum Naoba of Kwakeithel Ningthemkol near Imphal College in Imphal West. During the operation, police seized 288 bottles of codeine phosphate cough syrup from his possession along with an e-rickshaw suspected to have been used for transporting the contraband.
The three accused are now in custody, and further investigations are underway.
