SENAPATI, March 31: Manipur police on March 29 arrested four alleged smugglers, including two females, and seized contraband brown sugar worth approximately Rs 1 crore in the international market. The operation also led to the confiscation of six mobile handsets and a four-wheeler.
The police, acting on reliable sources regarding the movement of contraband on National Highway 102 at Kangpokpi-Senapati-Mao, remained vigilant and intercepted a four-wheeler traveling from Kangpokpi towards Senapati. The vehicle, carrying six individuals, was searched, leading to the discovery of 174 soap cases filled with brown sugar.
The arrested individuals were identified as Khaikahao Kipgen @ John (40), Letgoumang Touthang @ Amon (33), Aabi Baral (28), Jitten Kharka (22), L H Ranirou (42), and Leah Chao (44). The police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the law.
The contraband, the arrested smugglers, and the impounded vehicle are now in the custody of Kangpokpi district police for further legal proceedings. An official statement highlighted the operation as part of the district police’s ongoing efforts to disrupt narcotics smuggling and enhance security in the region.
