IMPHAL, June 18: Manipur reported 14 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the cumulative tally in the ongoing wave to 34, according to health department officials.
Out of the 14 fresh cases, eight were detected in Imphal West, three in Imphal East, and three in Bishnupur district. Health officials confirmed that Imphal West remains the worst-hit district, now accounting for 22 of the total cases.
Officials said the first confirmed case of the current outbreak was detected on June 9, when a 23-year-old woman from Bishnupur tested positive. Her sample had been collected on June 5 at a private clinic in Imphal.
As of Tuesday, the state’s COVID-19 positivity rate has jumped to 32.6%, signaling a rapid escalation in cases. While one patient has reportedly recovered, the remaining individuals are under home isolation and are said to be in stable condition.
In response to the rise in cases, health authorities have intensified contact tracing and reactivated a dedicated medical helpline to assist the public. The government is urging citizens to remain vigilant and follow COVID-appropriate behavior.
