IMPHAL, March 12: Security forces in Manipur have successfully arrested 12 militants in a series of operations across different districts, targeting proscribed militant groups in a bid to curb insurgent activities in the region.
On March 11, a joint operation led by security forces resulted in the arrest of seven active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) from a farmhouse/temporary camp located at Tera Urak in Imphal West district. The arrested individuals, identified as Pebam Bishorjit Singh (27), Keisham Bishorjit Singh (28), Warepam Premananda Singh (37), Yambem Shital Singh (35), WM Arif Khan (24), Wahengbam Momocha Meitei (37), and Loitongbam Hemba Singh (35), were found in possession of a significant haul of weapons and other materials. The seized items included pistols, a magazine loaded with ammunition, SLR and AK rifles, a BAOFENG handheld radio, mobile phones, side bags, wallets, a receipt book, and a tax challan of KCP (PWG), along with Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and a four-wheeler.
On the same day, two more members of the KCP (PWG), identified as Khongbamtabam Nanao Meitei (25) and Kshetrimayum Roshan Singh (25), were arrested from Khurai Chingangbam Leikai near the DDK Imphal Gate in Imphal East. Authorities recovered mobile phones and wallets from their possession.

In another operation on March 11, security forces along with the 5/9 GR arrested one active member of the Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL), identified as Konjengbam Ibotomcha Meitei (54), near the waiting shed at the foothills of Sanjembam Khullen Village in Imphal East district. He was apprehended for his involvement in extortion activities. Seized from his possession were forty-five AK rifle ammunitions, a mobile phone, and a wallet.
On March 10, security forces apprehended Maibam Virendrakumar Singh (32), a cadre of the KCP (Taibanganba) group, from Wabagai Makha Leikai Heibongmakhong in Kakching district. Singh was involved in extortion activities targeting the public in Kakching and Thoubal districts. Authorities seized a mobile phone from him.
In a separate incident on March 10, Laishram Tomba (36), a member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK Pro), was arrested from Wangoo Chairel Leingangtabi area in Bishnupur district. Tomba was involved in extortion activities in Kakching and Bishnupur districts. Authorities seized Rs 1,000 in cash and a mobile phone from his possession.
