IMPHAL, June 18: Security forces on Tuesday, June 17, arrested three active members of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) during a series of coordinated operations across Manipur. The arrests, targeted individuals involved in extortion activities allegedly orchestrated by the insurgent outfit.
In the initial operation, personnel from Lamphel Police Station apprehended a 22-year-old woman identified as Yumnam Jenica from Moirangkampu Awang Leikai in Imphal East District. She was detained in the Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai area of Imphal West, with authorities claiming that she was actively extorting money from the public; a mobile phone and ₹2,500 were recovered during the operation.
In a subsequent operation under Bishnupur Police, two more cadres—51-year-old Khomdram Joy Singh alias Khagemba, a resident of Nambol Lourembam currently residing in Ningthoukhong, and 49-year-old Maibam Memcha Devi from Wangoo Mamang Sabal—were arrested from Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou in Bishnupur District. The Bishnupur team, while conducting a search, also seized one .32 calibre pistol with an empty magazine and four mobile phones, as officials linked the arrested individuals to multiple extortion cases targeting local businessmen and residents.
