Imphal, August 25: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint team of Manipur Police, CRPF, and BSF arrested five individuals during coordinated operations in Lilong and Kyamgei areas of the state.
The arrested have been identified as Md. Mustakim (39) and Md. Arif (20) of Lilong Ushoipokpi Tharaorok, Md. Ajit (32) and his wife Mrs. Ruhima (26) of Lilong Makha Leikai, and Md. Baboy alias Yahiya Khan (35) of Kyamgei Mamang Leikai.
During the raid, security forces recovered 2.27 kilograms of WY (methamphetamine) tablets from Mustakim’s residence and 45 grams of the same substance from Baboy’s house. Additionally, six mobile handsets, several account ledgers, diaries, 120 empty plastic containers, and two vehicles—a Renault Duster (ML05L-0490) and a Maruti Alto (AS05N-7322)—suspected to have been used in drug trafficking, were seized.
Authorities disclosed that both Mustakim and Baboy are habitual offenders with prior involvement in narcotics smuggling. Mustakim was earlier arrested by Assam Police in Guwahati in 2022 for transporting 205 soap cases of heroin, for which he served two years in prison before being released on bail in January 2025. Baboy was also arrested in 2020 by Assam Police for smuggling 7,000 WY tablets and was released on bail in 2023.
Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
